Freezer cooking just might change your life….

It’s 5:30 pm on a regular Wednesday evening.
You are driving home after chauffeuring everyone around for their evening swim, tae kwon do, and soccer practices when your son pipes up from the backseat, “Mom, what’s for dinner? I’m Starving!”
At first, you kind of go into a little panic mode, and then you think to yourself, “Kid, when are you ever NOT hungry?” but then you start thinking “I’m so exhausted, we’re already getting home late, there’s still homework that needs to be done, maybe I should just pick up pizza or something.”
And then suddenly, you remember that full day of cooking you did last weekend! And you remember that you made a delicious, healthy, homemade casserole and took it out of the freezer just that morning.
Thank goodness! You are saved! All you have to do when you get home is start the oven, maybe crack open a bottle of wine, throw that casserole in the oven for 30 minutes and dinner will be ready in no time!
Sound like a fantastical daydream to you?
Well, it did to me too, until the day I came upon Once a Month Meals.
I had heard the term “freezer cooking” before, but I guess it didn’t really sink in until that day.
Freezer Cooking is where you make a large batch of recipes, all in one day, in order to have prep-made or pre-prepped meals, frozen, and ready to go for those days that you need them. It’s like those premade, frozen lasagnas or t.v. dinners you see at the grocery store, except these are homemade and without all the potential bad stuff.
Once a Month Meals gives you everything you need to shop, prep and cook a bulk of your monthly meals in just one day — and freeze those meals for when you want to eat them.
The beauty of doing it yourself is you can customize your freezer meals to suit any dietary restrictions or preferences. Once a month meals has premade menus for:
- Traditional
- Vegetarian
- Real Food
- Gluten-free/Dairy-free
- Paleo
- Diet
- low FODMAP allergen
Now, you may be thinking to yourself, “Where am I going to find the time to not just make all these meals, but also to organize a ton of recipes and then figure out a shopping list for all that stuff?” I know that’s what I was thinking (I’m not the most organized person out there 😉
That is part of the beauty of Once a month meals, all you have to do is choose from one of the 600 curated menus, click on however many people are in your family, swap out any recipes you might be unsure of, and then press print.
OAMM does it all for you! The calculations, the shopping list, the prep instructions and the cooking day instructions.
What I love
- I love that all the organizing is done for you.
- I love the fact that you can easily swap out recipes because I can use this program even as a gardener and homesteader. In August when the zucchini is going nuts, I can base a lot of recipes on zucchini, when September comes and we are inundated with tomatoes, same thing.
- I love that it saves us money. I can check the flyers and sales and base my recipes on what’s on sale that week. We also save money by not ordering takeout or eating fast food or eating at restaurants.
- There are a ton of crock pot and instant pot recipes.
What I don’t love
- I don’t love the amount of packaging and plastics they encourage you to use. We get around this a bit by using glass or other containers where possible and I’m still working on this part.
Price
There are two plans to choose from. One is a monthly plan which is $16 per month and the other is a yearly plan at $170. Either of which you can cancel at any time.
I personally decided to try the monthly plan at first. You can also get a free mini menu just for signing up with your email (which includes 5 recipes plus a grocery shopping list, prep instructions, recipe cards, labels and more)
