In The Summer Homestead Garden
Where did July go? Seriously, because I swear I just blinked and it was gone! Just showing a little update of the garden today, I’ll warn you, there are lots of weeds! But first a quick little look back at last years garden.
Wow! I love looking back at these old pics, makes me realize how much I’ve gotten done in the last year. I can’t believe we have been gardening here 2 years already. In the picture above is the half of the garden that wasn’t even in production last year, this year we have more than 3/4 of the garden in production. Yay!
Squash and in the background is corn, I’ve never grown corn before so I’m excited about that!
Purple cabbage…
Crazy patch of mint
Yes, there are a ton of weeds to be seen and picked. I have been adding mulch in the form of wood chips to keep the weeds down and to keep the soil moist (a large portion of our garden has very sandy soil). Scaling up to about 2500 square feet of growing space has been a challenge in keeping up with all the weeding but that’s all part of gardening!
Homestead Chickens:
Our little chicks have all grown up! The hens should be starting to lay in the next few weeks and we are so looking forward to fresh eggs 🥚 🍳.
