Izzy had kittens!
Warning! Pictures of cute kittens and kids ahead!
I can not believe summer is already half over! Can you? Time sure does fly, and on that note, I have to share with you the latest addition to our homestead, four sweet little kittens!
Last year, you may remember, we got our cat Isabelle (Izzy for short)Â and though we had plans to get her fixed as soon as we could, those plans got pushed back several months. I had brought her to the vet for her normal shots etc and was asking the vet when we could get her fixed but they kept saying she was too small (not too young, just too tiny). Izzy is definitely on the petite side so we waited, and waited, and waited, and forgot for a little while until all of a sudden it was spring.
Izzy is normally an inside cat but one day she sneaked outside. It wasn’t till later that we put together the fact that we had seen an unusual cat around our place for a few days (never seen it before and haven’t seen it again) and that it was around the time Izzy had sneaked outside. Lo and behold, Izzy came back and she started getting progressively fatter. And, about 2 months later, on June 5th she gave birth to 4 sweet adorable kittens! (I will warn you now this post is pretty photo heavy with lots of sweet kitten photos!)
First off is a little video of Izzy just after giving birth to her babies. It isn’t super graphic, just a bit of blood on a towel in the background, so just a heads up.
These photos aren’t the greatest as there were so many little bodies wiggling around, but you get the idea…
Izzy was such a little trooper and she wanted me to be there for the whole birthing. It all happened in the middle of the night and she came to our bedroom door and meowed until I came out to check on her. Not long after, she started giving birth, so I sat on the floor right by the towel I had laid down for her comfort. Such an amazing experience! I had never seen a baby of any kind being born before.
Our kids have certainly been enjoying watching and experiencing these kittens go from being so tiny and helpless to now, at 9 weeks old, climbing and wrestling and being rambunctious kittens.
And even with Stella! Stella has been so good with them. She is super gentle and she would lay beside the box that mama and babies lived in for the first while. Any time Izzy would leave the box (to use the litter box or grab a quick bite to eat) Stella would be right there watching the babies until their mama came back. We started calling Stella the kittens babysitter. 🙂 Of course, we watched them together and made sure Stella wasn’t just watching them in preparation of eating one of them or something. :-0
In this picture the kitten had crawled over, by itself and laid down under Stella’s protective leg and curled up for a nap. It was so cute!!
So, if you know of anyone who would like a kitten, would you pass along the message that we have a few to choose from?!
