This is a re-post (from my old blog) from a couple years ago but is still relevant now. The walls are still white, but there has been some rearranging which I will share with you all soon.
I have been on a bit of a painting spree around here and one of my favorite projects has been lightening and brightening our living room. That chocolate brown was fine but it was quite dark especially as this room is North/North-East orientation and it made an already fairly small space feel more small.
I have been in love with that cow painting above the tv since the moment I spotted it and she has become my colour inspiration. We also want our house to reflect who we are and some words we would use for that would be fun, comfortable, colorful, eclectic and sentimental.
So, here we go…
Before
After
Booyaa!! Light and bright and still colorful and cheerful. The color I used is Simply White by Benjamin Moore and it is nice and bright but also has a warm creaminess to it so it doesn’t feel stark .
I’m not quite finished updating our living room, so this isn’t a complete makeover before and after, but I couldn’t wait to show you all the progress so far.
The gallery wall I love and it’s mostly finished but there are a couple blank spots I would like to fill. I used all sorts of different types of art medium (canvas, quilting, silk screening, poster prints) all different artists. Some of the artists we know personally and some of the art were given to us by family or friends and a couple of pieces are thrift store finds.
The one unifying element through them all is color. I tried to work with pieces that had blues and greens and browns and stuck with black or white frames.
As you can see in the picture below, I painted the side table and I still need to paint the coffee table (probably the same color “French Enamel” in Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint). I love love love that colour and love love love milk paint!
So there we have it so far, like I mentioned I’m not completely finished decorating this living room.
I am working on a window treatment as I took the original blinds down to clean them and they were absolutely disgusting and totally sun faded on one side. So, I’d like to soften things up a bit and do some curtains.
I also want to paint the coffee table and possibly the t.v console and a few other tweaks.
What better way to celebrate than to wake up and have a refreshing festive drink in your hand? And unlike your classic orange juice, these easy mimosas have a delicious combination of mint and grapefruit! If you’re looking for a non-alcoholic mimosa, this can be done easily enough with our suggested substitution. We will be enjoying…
The summer months can be exceptionally hot depending upon where you live. Maybe you don’t want to give your kids ice cream when they ask for something sweet and cool. I think my kids ask for ice cream about once a day in the summer! Here are some alternative cool snacks that are just as…
Kids of all ages – and quite a few grownups – enjoy meeting the local wildlife, and summer is a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with some furry four-legged friends. An afternoon at the zoo or a walk through a nearby preserve not only gives everyone a chance to see the…
I was looking over my old blog and saw this lovely post from years gone by. I quite enjoyed reminiscing, but I also realized this list is pretty timeless (for the gift ideas at least) as only a few of the things they have outgrown. but maybe YOU have a child of similar age and…
This slow cooker chili gets a nice boost of flavour by using a combination of spicy and sweet pork sausage, rather than plain ground beef. To turn up the heat even more, use all spicy sausage instead. There are few meals within our family of five agree on and one of those is chili. Whether…
When it comes down to it, most sandwich “recipes” are actually just templates because there are so many options available in terms of bread, cheese, meat, vegetables and condiments you can use. However, when it comes to the much-loved bacon, lettuce, and tomato (BLT), any purist will tell you that there is one “true” way…
Very interesting points you have remarked, appreciate it for putting up. “Without courage, wisdom bears no fruit.” by Baltasar Gracian.
