More Favorite Gardening/Farming/Permaculture Books
Before starting on any garden adventures, I feel it is very important to get inspired and informed. And although the internet has nearly infinite sources or information I personally enjoy learning things by reading my favourite informative books and I have a feeling that you do too. Plus, if you are in the midst of an emergency and you don’t have power or internet service, having a library of references on hand is smart and helpful.

I wrote another post about this very subject (hence the word MORE in the title) so make sure you check out those suggestions of my favorite homesteading/farming/gardening books.
Favourite Gardening and Farming and Permaculture Books
1.) The first one on my list would be Designing the New Kitchen Garden ~ An American Potager Handbook.
Not sure what a Potager is? It is essentially a french kitchen garden which combines the practicality of growing vegetables with the aesthetics of adding flowers and hedges and symmetry. Here, let me show you some examples:
Aren’t they gorgeous?! I love the look and idea of a pretty potager and that book is helping me design one.

2.) Next up, because we have chickens, one of my favorite books is Free Range Chicken Garden ~ How to create a beautiful, chicken-friendly yard.
I love the gorgeous photos in this book both of gardens and of different types of chicken houses. Packed full of info, it is super helpful in designing a yard and/or garden and it also provides a decent amount of general chicken knowledge.
3.) And next we have Handmade Garden Projects ~ Step by step instructions for Creative Garden Features, containers, lighting & more. This book is chock full of awesome ideas using recycled or very inexpensive materials. Two important words in the homesteaders dictionary, #amiright?
4.) One of my newest favourite permaculture books is The Resilient Farm and Homestead ~ An innovative permaculture and whole systems design approach. Ben Falk has written this very comprehensive permaculture book using his own gorgeous farm as an example. He has even mastered how to grow rice in Vermont!
5.) I love the book The Nourishing Homestead ~ one Back-to-the-land family’s plan for cultivating soil, skills, and spirit as it is a family’s journey. Since I myself started this journey with a family in tow, I love reading how other families cope and their different approaches to the challenges of homesteading. And that is exactly what this book delivers.
6.) And last, but certainly not least, we have The Four Season Farm Gardener’s Cookbook~ From the garden to the Table in 120 Recipes. This book combines two of my absolute favorite types of books, a gardening book and cookbook all in one! The first part is all about the garden and the second part is all about the recipes.
I hope you have enjoyed this part 2 of my favourite homesteading/gardening/farming books and don’t forget to check out part 1 and some more resources below.
