Camping at Davis Creek – Kootenay Lake Provincial Park Campground

Davis Creek Provincial Park Campground is located on the north-western shores of Kootenay Lake, nestled between the Selkirk and Purcell Mountain ranges. It offers incredible lake and mountain views and lovely flat, clean campsites.

We were very lucky to enjoy a beautiful, hot sunny 3 days camping at Davis Creek smack dab in the middle of May. We arrived late Thursday evening and there were many sites still available. Davis Creek has 32 campsites as well as a group site which can accommodate gatherings of 15-50 people.

We pulled in, knowing that the 10 sites (called Cove Loop) to the right were all reserved for the weekend. Turning to the left we got ourselves situated in site #20 and quickly set up our new trailer and settled in to enjoy the sunset with our late dinner.

Our son Gabriel and daughter Cadence were a big help in setting up camp.

What to do at Davis Creek Provincial Park Campground?

The following morning we awoke and decided to do some exploring. We discovered there were many walking/hiking trails throughout the campground.

Being so close to the lake, there are numerous water activities to enjoy as well. Kayaking (my favourite!), stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, boating, swimming etc. During the summer you can rent kayaks and paddle boards right at the campground.

There is no boat launch at Davis Creek but there is one about 5 minutes away at nearby Lost Ledge Campground.

There are several hiking trails around the campground including one along the creek. If you are looking for something a little more challenging then there is the Davis Creek Trail which starts just off the highway and goes straight up the mountain and takes about 4-5 hours.

Campground Amenities

Campsites are a good size (we fit our truck and 24 ft trailer easily in the site we had!) with plenty of room. Each site also has a solid picnic table and fire pit.

There are several pit toilets (outhouses) as well as a drinking water faucet and grey water dump.

Firewood is available to purchase when fire bans are not in place. If fire bans are on, they also have a few propane fire pits to rent.

Although the water was too freezing cold yet to swim, we enjoyed our few days relaxing, doing a little bit of hiking and biking, figuring out our new travel trailer, soaking up the views and celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary!

Our three days camping at Davis Creek were the perfect little getaway for our family to enjoy. As this campground is only an hour or so from our home, it was far enough to feel like a getaway and near enough that we stayed within the provincial travel restrictions.

We had such a relaxing and enjoyable time at Davis Creek, we definitely plan to go there again.
